The Dina Collection Revisits Luxury

by Andrew C. Stone

FEW AMONG US, including our most glamorous friends and neighbors, have been spared the effects of the economic downturn. Fewer still can boast an upswing in business. But Yossi Dina—a tough-looking yet decidedly charming ex-Israeli commando—is in the business of lessening others’ economic malaise, and as a result has seen his empire thrive.

Known as the “pawnbroker to the rich and famous,” Dina is the go-to guy whenever a celeb, high roller or power broker needs discreet financial relief. His South Beverly Wilshire Jewelry & Loan in Los Angeles is known the world over for lending sizable sums to the fabulous set, in exchange for ritzy collateral. (A respectful staff quickly dispels any sense of embarrassment.) It’s an indispensable service at a time when the wisest among us are making tough decisions for the future.

The Dina Collection is a coveted—and impossible-to-duplicate—assortment of luxury automobiles, watches, estate jewelry, art and other gorgeousness. For the timepiece aficionado, Dina boasts an array of vintage and designer watches from such brands as Cartier, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Hublot Genève. His art offerings include Warhols, Kandinskys, Chagalls and Picassos, as well as a number of works by 19th-century masters. And don’t skip the garage—the vintage vehicles housed there will cause even the most seasoned auto enthusiast’s jaw to drop. 249 S. Beverly Dr., Beverly Hills, 310-888- 8888; thedinacollection.com.

The New ‘Face’ of Emeralds

Emeralds are a Girl’s Best Friend!

Monroe DiamondsDo you remember what Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn did for Diamonds… If not these photos should jog your memory a little. Glam wham! Thank you Mam! Clearly these charming ladies set the precedent for a girl’s best friend and now Ian Harebottle, the CEO of Gemfields Plc, wants to do the same for Emeralds! Harebottle is the biggest producer of these beautiful green stones and  he is looking for a global A-list celebrity to be the “Face of Emeralds” for the future.

Audrey HepburnRarer than diamonds, yet cheaper, emeralds are gaining popularity amongst consumers - but fail to comprise more than 10 percent of global gem sales. At the same time, the more recent publicity surrounding Jessica Simpson, Halle Berry and the Duchess of Cambridge receiving engagement rings containing colored stones, has been very beneficial to the industry – further proving that a famous face might be just what the stone needs to boost its ratings. So who has the fan base to be able to stand out with the likes of Marilyn and Audrey? That’s some pretty tough competition! Who do you think would be the best 2013 Global starlet to fit the bill?
